Hi Kevin: Good lists, and good brevity, though I have to make some assumptions in picking my top three from your lists. Seems like you have some good topics to write about in these:
From ‘Talks’ I think you can combine the voting for Nixon and becoming a Democrat into a nice opinion piece. Why do people vote the way they do, anyway? How informed are we as voters?
From ‘Talks’ I’d like to hear more about “not being religious” and how it has changed your outlook on things, yourself, and family because I’ve had experiences with family members, mostly negative from my perspective, where they have turned to and away from religions and think it an interesting topic to explore.
From ‘Significant Moments’ I’d like to hear more about the letter to your parents defining your beliefs. The act seems courageous if it was counter to their belief system. Maybe it had to do with religion as well. How did they take it?
Take Care,
Frank

Kevin - here are my thoughts:

I love being loved. This intrigues me – does this comment more on yourself or those that love you? I want to know why? I don’t think everyone loves being loved, you not? It’s compelling because it’s different in my mind.

Every morning after coffee. Why after coffee, does it wake you up? Where do you drink your coffee? Who do you drink your coffee with? Does it matter what kind of coffee? Do ever drink coffee later in the day, do you love your conversations then? I find this compelling because I like coffee and the thought that just the coffee makes a conversation special.

Eighth and ninth grade in Naples Italy. Does this mean you grew up in a military/Navy family? I love Naples – such a unique place? Was your experience positive or negative? What made Naples important to you? Is it just that 8th and 9th grade was unique or was it Naples? Amazing out of 8 of us in the class – 3 are Navy – Beth, Frank, and Kevin? What does that say about the spirit of a sailor? Are there any others?

Dear Kevin,

I had to read between the lines of your list and had a couple that I would love to hear more about:

Naples, Italy. I grew up in Rome, Italy but attended the American school and so got to play basketball and volleyball games against the Naples high school team. What was amazing to me about all the military bases is that they are a little America in the heart of Italy. Especially in Naples which is so chaotic and "Italian" to have this little American world was so incredibly surreal. I loved eating the hamburgers and having baskin' robbins. The colors of the school were white and green and what was the mascot (wildcats?). I think the contrast between Italy and the base and life outside and inside would be really interesting...

Why you had to go to war? It would be really interesting to hear more about this. I can't imagine why anyone would want to go to war or feel so patriotic to volunteer to go to war. What emotions do you feel? How do you get the courage to go? How do you face leaving all your family behind and saying good-bye? How can you be convinced by the politics of it all?

The feeling of flying
I am on a plane every week for work and I can't stand flying. Everytime I go through turbulence I think I am going to die. So I would love to understand what makes you love it so much and what exactly you feel up there that you would dedicate your life to the activity?

I'd love to see the flying, fear of flying, and flight writing someday.

Hi Kevin,

I'd be interested to hear more about your thoughts on commitment (maybe because I've never been able to ask a man to talk about his feelings on the topic), your conversations on adoption, and the letter to your parents about your beliefs. What are your beliefs? Why did you have to define them?
